The torch is on the way to Granada
The flame of the Universiade is on its way to Granada from Slovakia. Yesterday, Francisco Ledesma, Councilor of Economy and Finance of the Town Hall of Granada and acting on behalf of José Torres Hurtado President of the Organizing Committee, collected it in Slovakia.
Together with Francisco Ledesma, The event counted with the presence of the Spanish Ambassador in Slovakia Félix Valdés and the Head of the Faculty of Sports Aurelio Ureña, from the University of Granada.
The flame collection took place during the closing ceremony of the Nordic Skiing and Ski Jumping competitions, held in the Slovakian cities of Strbske Pleso and Osrblie.Both, the torch and FISU flag were handed from the 1st Vice President of FISU Oleg Matytsin and the OC Vice President in Slovakia to Francisco Ledesma.
The flame is due to arrive at the Congress and Exhibition Centre of Granada on the 4th, day of the opening ceremony where the cauldron will be lit. The cauldron can be already seen at the Congress and Exhibition Centre building staircase.
Although the official opening of the Univerisade is next Wednesday, tomorrow the first trainings and group matches will kick off at the Granada Sports Palace. The Universiade will last until 14th February, when the Kazaja City of Almaty will substitute Granada in the organization.
