The Winter Universiade Granada 2015 medals and official apps for mobiles have been launched. The debut took place in the Congress and Exhibition Centre before Antonio Granados, Councilor of the Sports Area, Sandra García, Government Delegate, and the CEO of the Universiade, Ignacio Pipó.
Between the 4th and 14th of February, almost 400 medals will be delivered. The Granada born José Luis García, creator of the official logo in 2009 – in this year Granada was nominated to hold the Universiade- is the responsible for the medals design.
According to García, the medals are actually an evolution of the logo, whose parts divide until they adopt a round shape. “We try to create a medal in accordance with the image of the event, always focused on the logo”, the artist stated.
The medals ceremony will take place in different scenarios. In the case of snow sports, the ceremony will be hold in the square opposite the Congress and Exhibition Centre, so that all people from Granada may enjoy the event together with the athletes. As for ice sports, the ceremony will be held in the corresponding facilities: Sports Palace, Granada Igloo and the Fuentenueva Pavilion of the University of Granada.
Regarding the opening ceremony, the Councilor of the Sports Area of the town hall of Granada, Antonio Granados, confirmed that it will take place the 4th of February at 6.00 pm at the Congress and Exhibition Centre. Though in a first moment the opening ceremony was thought to be held outdoors, finally it will take place indoors to avoid unfavorable climate conditions. In addition, Granados highlighted the local nature of the ceremony.
Apart from the medals, the new official apps were also presented. It is a suite with three different options developed by Desarrollo Tic – a company fully formed by engineers from the University of Granada.
He highlighted that the most important of them is the official applicaciones free for IOS and Android. It is an application which tracks in real time competitions thanks to its links with the official timing system, carried out by Swiss Timing. There is also plenty of information regarding schedule, news, social networks, weather forecast and transports.
As far as transport is concerned, the local bus company Rober will provide real time data to the application suite related to bus times. Thanks to it, athletes and other accredited staff will easily move in the city. Finally, another transport application has been developedfor the delegation members.
